Title: A Study on the Condition of Workers in Philippine Geothermal Inc. Makiling-Banahao Project Field
Authors: Villena, Christian Benedict M.
Abstract: The study mainly concerns on the struggle of the working class for a
better working condition amidst the capitalist system. I have tried to
simplify the lamenting picture of the Filipino working class through this
research on the conditions of the workers in PGI Mak-Ban Project Field.
Chapter I, which is the thesis proposal, shows the fundamental
concepts of the study. The chapter also explains the choice of the research
setting and sampling procedure. This also serves as the introduction for the
research and explains the scope and limitation as well as the significance of
the study.
The author began the account of the research in Chapter II, which
explains the general condition of the Philippine working class. Here the
study focuses on the dilemma of the workers considering the abusive and
exploitative domination of capitalists in the country. The demand for decent
wage, biased structural programs and suppression of workers' rights and
welfare were the major issues confronted by the working class not only in
our country but also in other developing countries.
Chapter III deals with the reality of the erratic situation of PGI
\Workers. This chapter shows the management and workers' relationship in
Mak-Ban plant and the role of the labor union in promoting the rights and
welfare of its members.
Chapter IV examines the presentation of data and the analysis about
the research is discussed. Here the opinions and discussions about the
situation of the PGI workers were proven through tables and graphs which is
relevant in understanding their present condition.
The last chapter is the conclusion of the study where I have tried to
compare and associate the general condition of the Filipino workers to the
PGI workers.
Further research and investigation on the condition of the working
class could give sufficient solutions to the issues surrounding the workers.
However, I am hoping that with this study would, somewhat, help the
readers understand the irrevocable situation of the working class under the
supremacy of the capitalist system.

Abstract: This paper research paper discusses the subject matter of prostitution particularly
the issue regarding the proposed legalization of prostitution in the country. The
recognition of prostitution as a legitimate working sector had generated a lot of debates
and argumentations concerning its value and magnitude when implemented in the
Philippines. The International Labor Organization has proposed this recognition of sex
industry as sex work, following the lobbying of women's group to its opposition. This
paper presents the arguments laid by ILO and the retorts of women's organizations
corroborated by a comprehensive account of prostitution in the Philippines

Title: Flying Coffins: A Study on the Over Dependence of the PAF on US Foreign Military Assistance
Authors: Espero, Fernando Gerard O. III
Abstract: The Philippine Air Force, the department tasked to protect the country's air space
is in a terrible state. Compared to other countries within the South East Asian region, the
PAF lacks the equipment needed to effectively perform its duty to the country. Worse,
the current equipment of the P AF continues to decrease and deteriorate due to the lack of
funds for its maintenance.
In 1946, the Philippines was granted independence by the United States but
several foreign policies nullified the newly reclaimed freedom of the country. The
Truman Doctrine paved the way for the foreign military assistance of the US for all of its
allies and satellites in Asia. The Philippines, being a former colony of the US was
granted military paraphernalia such as aircrafts and ammunitions. Several other doctrines
ensured the tight grip of the US on the Philippines. The US military ran the show for the
AFP as the Philippines' armed forces was relegated merely on internal security matters.
The Joint US Military Advisory Group was created to monitor the equipment and training
of the personnel of the AFP.
Decades of being under the supervision of the US proved to be detrimental to the
AFP as the establishment of an independent and self-reliant defense system was
foregone, making the AFP dependent on US Foreign Military Aid. There is a need to
review the agreements that the Philippines has with the US if the P AF and the entire AFP
is to modernize. Although the officials of the P AF and JUSMAG would point to the lack
of funds as the real reason behind the underdevelopment of the air force and the entire
armed forces, it is clear that the US does not intend the Philippines to have a modem
defense systems.
