dc.description.abstract | This exploratory, qualitative study focused on the adaptation of the new work style of coworking in the Philippines. Specifically, this aimed to assess how coworking is practiced in Calle Uno coworking space. In order to delve more into the topic, the research also aimed to answer the sub-problems of: 1.) assessing how coworking is being practiced based on the coworking core values of Collaboration, Openness, Community, Accessibility and Sustainability, 2.) determining the role of the management, 3.) identifying the motivations of the practitioners and 4.) determining the problems encountered in coworking. To fulfill the aim of the research, semi-structured interviews were conducted among seven (7) participants including the founder and six (6) members. Findings show that Calle Uno adheres to the five coworking core values. The diversity of coworkers enhances the possibilities for collaboration. Moreover, the open-plan feature of the workplace is viewed favourably by the coworkers. Also, open discussions involving members and outsiders are made possible through hosting of events such as educational activities, study-abroad seminars, gaming events and events for socialization. The study found out that Calle Uno is able to create a convivial environment where people are expected to actively communicate with each other and contribute to the community. In terms of accessibility, members not only perceived Calle Uno as affordable but also geographically accessible. Sustainable practices are also being observed. Furthermore, it is shown that Calle Uno contributes to the professional growth and personality development of members. However admirable the concept of coworking is, problems are inevitable for the chosen coworking space. Thus, recommendations for promotional strategies and future research were presented. Lastly, an Activity Theory-based framework is adapted appropriately based on the data obtained. | en_US |
