Title: The Inhibitory Effect of the Probiotic Microzyme Concentrate on Staphylococcus aureus Growth in vitro

Abstract: Staphylococcus aureus is one of the most common causes of bacterial skin infections in wounds and lesions. While it is part of the normal flora of the human body, S'. aureus can also cause infections and diseases by releasing harmful toxins or by infecting almost any organ in the body, using wounds and skin lesions as points of entry. The in vitro antimicrobial activity of Microzyme Concentrate probiotic was tested against S', aureus. The study utilized the Metal Cylinder Diffusion Method using the following dilutions: 1:3, 1:6, 1:9, 1:12, 1:15, as well as the Bacterial Reduction Method using the following dilutions: undiluted, 1:10, 1:20, 1:30 and 1:40 at the following contact times: 10, 20, and 30 minutes. Results of the metal cylinder diffusion method show that Microzyme Concentrate is effective against S. aureus in its undiluted form as demonstrated by the mean zone of inhibition measuring 19.58 ± 1.521 mm. The 1:3 dilution also demonstrated a zone of inhibition measuring 12.03 ± 1.548 mm. The percentage bacterial reduction for the undiluted form was computed to be at 99.99% at all contact times. Overall, these results indicate that the action of Microzyme Concentrate against S. aureus is time- and concentration-dependent, with an increasing inhibitory action as time of contact and concentration increases.
