Title: Small-Scale Fishing in Barangay Tagpos, Binangonan, Rizal
Authors: Ignacio, Louella Vanessa S.
Issue Date: Feb-2006
Abstract: This study provides insights on how a small lakeshore fishing community in the Laguna Lake area is affecting the lives of its people by various internal and external factors. Baran gay Tagpos in Binangonan, Rizal presents a microcosm of the larger shore fisherfolk communities in the Philippines where general poverty pervades. The study identifies the specific issues and concerns that lakeshore fisherfolks are beset with. These include policy inequality, environmental control issues, law enforcement, empowerment of the people and government assistance. It is the intention of this paper to provide not insights but a deeper understanding of how lake fishing affects the thousands of people living in Barangay Tagpos. Barangay Tagpos represents a dynamic example of a community that is dependent on a single economic source - lake-fishing.
