Title: Unveiling Rural Housing Realities: A Holistic Examination of the Housing Situation in Baranggay Caluangan, Magallanes, Cavite
Authors: Cago, Justine Franch B.
Issue Date: Jun-2023
Abstract: This study employs a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods, utilizing a convergent parallel design and a phenomenological approach to investigate the problem of intergenerational substandard housing in rural communities. The research specifically focuses on Baranggay Caluangan in Magallanes, Cavite, Philippines. The study examines the underlying causes and impacts of inadequate housing in rural areas, which have been largely overlooked in existing literature that primarily focuses on urban housing issues. Through interviews and data analysis, the study reveals that housing in rural communities is treated as a commodity rather than a basic right, leading to a lack of attention and investment in addressing housing problems. Financial constraints, limited access to resources, and inadequate government support contribute to the prevalence of intergenerational substandard housing. The findings highlight the specific housing challenges faced by residents, including insufficient living space, inadequate water sources, housing insecurity, and subpar housing structures. The study emphasizes the need for a shift in perspective and policies to recognize adequate housing as a fundamental need for rural communities.
