Sex education is coming into its own. More and more people are realizing just how important it really is. But with our conservative Filipino culture, issues relating to human sexuality have been hidden in our closets for the longest time. Parents are afraid to discuss these matters to their children because they themselves lack the necessary information to answer the questions that could be thrown at them. This is where sex education comes in; it should fill the gap between parents and their children in matters that relates to our sexuality. An effective sex education should be able to make students realize of the “immense possibilities for human fulfillment that sexuality offers, rather than primarily to control and suppress sex expression" (Rubin, 1968). The researcher realized the need of Filipino students for sex education to be taught in schools, and this prompted him to undertake this research. The research will primarily include a review of the status of sex education in other parts of the world, its successes and failures; the situation here in the Philippines as it relates towards sex education and the realization of its importance; and an assessment of the plausibility of having sex education introduced in secondary schools in Muntinlupa City.en_US
