Abstract: Presently, fishing plays a major role in our economy. Being blessed with a rich and diverse aquatic resource, it generously provides for the nourishment and livelihood of many Filipino fishermen in the country. Recently though, the fishing industry has been facing trouble. Various problems which have been detrimental to the environmental state of our waters are popping up everywhere. One of which is the Lingayen Gulf, a major source of aquatic resource in Luzon. Many residents in the area depending on it are moving away from fishing as their main livelihood and instead are looking for other sources of income. It is therefore the purpose of this paper to study and identify what are the causes and effects of these problems in the Gulf. Why is it being destroyed and not protected? Surely, these problems have a chain reaction to the surrounding communities that look towards it. How are the local fishermen coping up with these situations and what aid are they receiving from the government and other agencies. This paper will also report on the present state of the fishing industry as well as an account of what the industry went through in the years that had already passed.
