People power fatigue: a manifestation of the Filipinos' distrust in the mechanism of People Power Revolution?

Abstract

In People Power Fatigue: The Filipinos' Response to the Failure of the People Power Revolution, the researcher establishes the relationship between the Filipinos' perception of the past People Power Revolutions and its influence to their Social Movement Participation and Behavior The study also refutes the existence of People Power Fatigue and contends that the decline in the people's involvement in legal protest calls is a manifestation of the Filipinos' development in their political consciousness and an increased understanding that People Power Revolution is an important political mechanism that loses its value when employed hastily every now and then. In addition, the inaction and passive participation among Filipinos is a normal response to the government's tactics of repression as individuals weigh the costs and benefits of joining legal protest actions against the government. Furthermore, the research has enumerated and ranked the reasons why Filipinos are unwilling to join mobilizations. Lastly, the study provides two alternatives to People Power Revolution preferred by most Filipinos and an explanation for such preference.
