Abstract

The concept of Accessibility is simple to define, yet heard to operationalize. “’Accessibility’ refers to … the extent to which products and services are used by a person with a disability as effectively as can be used by persons without disabilities.” (Takayama, 2009). Accessibility entails that services permit the impaired to be able to “live independently and participate fully in all aspects of life." At this juncture, it is necessary to clarify that Accessibility is not only a concern of the Disabled; some encounter similar challenges that consequently require the same entitlements. One such case is that of the elderly or the aged. Both populations are members of society, plagued by detriments beyond their own volition. These are individuals who have spent their lives at the service of their nation; as fully functioning, civic members of the community. [Introduction]
