Title: Research on research: the political economy of the socio-economic advocacies of two leading research institutions in the Philippines
Authors: Castillo, Rayla Marie Recci G.
Keywords: Research institutions
Issue Date: Apr-2013
Abstract: Research institutions are trusted think tanks or centers in which we turn to for information; however, very few researches are made about research institutions themselves. In this thesis paper, the different socio-economic advocacies of two leading research institutions in the Philippines were studied. Results showed the two institutions as subscribing in general or in part, as in the case of some researchers or institution members, as to either liberal or nationalist views. Examination of published materials released regularly by the institutions, such as research outputs or sample outputs released monthly or fortnightly; publications released irregularly, such as books, annual reports, or executive findings; and other materials was part of the research process. Interviews with key persons such as research fellows and executive officers were also conducted. IBON Foundation Inc., is seen as subscribing fully to nationalist views, while PIDS is seen as subscribing to liberal views.
