dc.description.abstract The potential hypoglycaemic effect of Ganoderma lucidum and Schizophyllum commune crude hot water extract on male Swiss-Webster mice was tested. Dried fruiting bodies of the mushrooms were boiled to obtain the crude extracts which were then administered orally to the mice with elevated blood glucose level (BGL) induced by Hydrochlorothiazide [Hydrodiuril™]. Both fungal extracts were given in two different concentrations (10% and 100%) along with Glibenclamide [Daonil™] and distilled water to serve as the positive and negative control treatment. Based on the results, Ganoderma lucidum showed potency in decreasing BGL from 40 minutes to 120 minutes which is not significantly different (p>0.05) from the lowering effect of Glibenclamide while Schizophyllum commune showed potency of increasing BGL from 40 minutes to 120 minutes. en_US
