This study aims to define food insecurity in the Philippines, particularly in the
areas of Barangay 13, Zone 2 of Tondo and Barangay 272, Zone 25 of Sta.Cruz, Metro
Manila. There exists a practice in those areas called “Pagpag”, which literally means
dusting-off dirt. With using accidental sampling and personal interview with residents of
the said areas, respondents’ dust-off dirt from garbage food, cleanse it with water, boil it,
and then re-cook the newly-bathed-scrap-now-tumed-to-ingredient chow. This kind of practice not only directly and/or indirectly harm the people’s health
but as well manifests how poor the Philippines today. It also shows the ineffectiveness of
the administration, and this study will prove that Madame Arroyo’s regime does not
provide enough basic services for the Filipinos. |
