Abstract:
Political dynasty in the course of Philippine context has been one of the most
characteristics that is commonly distinguished both in the local and the national elections.
Across the country, the same political clans are winning. Reports and allegation of fraud
and violence often meant to prevent people from voting and to disrupt the counting of
votes also show that their methods of holding on to power remained the same.
Democracy among the people has often been disregarded by the creation of political
dynasties.
In the province of Isabela, the Dy family has been one of the famous political
clans that is dynastic in power and has been ruling the province for almost four decades.
They hold almost all the major political seats in the provincial government of Isabela
with the same linkages of the family. It seemed that their hold into power is so much
stronger that no one has ever tried to change the longest trend in the political arena.
However, during the 2004 elections, the highest political seat which the gubernatorial
position has been changed and this become the result of how the Dy family has lost their
victory after holding the position for a very long time. This paper is now concerned on
the factors that led to the downfall of the Dy political dynasty in the province of Isabela
and study these factors that have toppled this political giant that has ruled the province
for so many years. In addition, this paper will try to assess the administration of the Dy
family and to see its effect on the local body politic in the province of Isabela.
