Abstract:
Every leader has its own quality of leadership. Skills are very important aspect of
the value of leadership he/she possesses that would indeed help the betterment of the
community. Basically this study is an analysis of the perception of leadership skills of the
Punong barangay as perceived by himself and his/her subordinates.
The respondents of this study were barangay officials (Punong barangay and its
subordinates) of Barangays 879-894. District 6 of the City of Manila. Sampling method
was made in order to know the sample size of the respondents. The research made use of
qualitative and quantitative measures in order gather the data needed for the success of
the study. For the qualitative measure, the researcher used interviews that later on
supplemented the quantitative data using surveys. The analyses of the perception of the
Punong barangay by himself and by his/her subordinates were measured using T-values.
The findings of this study based on the survey and research conducted, the Punong
barangays tend to rate themselves higher compared to the subordinates in the four main
skills namely Human Relations Skill, Technical Skill, Administrative Skill, and
Institutional Skill. And therefore concluded that there is a significant difference between
the perception of the Punong barangay and its subordinates. On a broader level, though
there is a significant difference between the perceptions, nonetheless the parties have not
been experiencing major problems in their team that would make their office lack its
credibility. This study allowed the Punong barangays know their weakest points and as a
result will let them to improve more of the skill they possess.
