Abstract:
Image Nudity Detection System (ImNuDe) is a Firefox browser extension that
aims to promote safer and less offensive web browsing by detecting nude images on each
web page visited and stopping these images from being shown. The extension uses Ap-
apid's nudity detection algorithm to check for signs of nudity in images. It has two users.
namely: the general user and the system administrator. The general user views web pages
in accordance with the current settings of the extension. The extension may use
placeholders in replace of the detected nude images or may halt the loading of the page
containing nudity and redirect it to a notification page, depending on the settings
specified in the system's control panel which is managed by the system administrator. In
the control panel, the system administrator can activate/deactivate the extension, change
its filter mode (placeholder or halt page), maintain a whitelist (a list of URLs and domain
names that are exempted to being checked by the extension for nudity), set/change
password, and restore default settings (extension being active and in placeholder mode,
no password defined). The extension is able to detect nudity with a 91.75% recall and an
8.38% false positive rate, correctly identifying 434 out of 473 nude images as nude and
incorrectly classifying 55 out of 656 non-nude images as nude.
