Abstract:
This non-experimental qualitative study
proposed to ascertain the difference in attitude of
present-day male and female adolescents concerning
the different Filipino marriage customs and
traditions.
Fifty male and fifty female adolescents, ages
ranging from 18-21, answered a questionnaire
regarding their awareness and adherence to the said
traditions. Results indicated that there was indeed a
difference. The presence of sex-role stereotyping in
the society 1s probably one major factor that caused
this discrepancy. It was discovered that as what was
expected, the female population was the more
knowledgeable and was more likely to practice the
customs and traditions in marriage.
In addition, even with the changing times,
traditional thinking was still evident in some of the
answers of the respondents.
