Abstract:
This study has the purpose of introducing the gifted children as a minority that needs cultivating and government help. The study’s main concern is to present the attitude and attitude differences between the gifted boys and gifted girls. The respondents are part of the Special Education Accelerated Curriculum (SPED-AC). They are all proven to be intellectually gifted-having the same high IQ – but nevertheless differences between the girls and boys exist. The society and the family are the ones primary responsible for these differences. These gifted children differ in their interests and need for support in accordance to their gender, which consequently makes it appear that the gifted girls are at a disadvantage. Thus this study will aim to show concepts and facts related to the attitude and attitude differences between the two groups. At the end clarifying how and why it leads to such results.
The research design used in this study is a descriptive cross-sectional design while the instruments are questionnaire, interview and second hand data to gather the needed information. The collected data from these three instruments will be integrated into to present the three facets that affect a gifted child. These are the family, the school and his/her developed interests/preferences. Finally the study will encourage the advocacy of supporting the gifted population especially that at this time the resources and materials about the gifted is still scarce in the country. Parents are solely responsible for their gifted children to meet their potentials. They must seek proper help from institutions and people who will help them cultivate their children’s giftedness. This study will then suggest that helping the gifted could be done only by gaining knowledge about them through continuous research and development of tools to produce materials that will help in developing the gifted.
