Abstract:
The use of information system in medical institutions has been proven to improve
the quality and efficiency of health care. This explains why medical information system
has become an important support tool in the management of health care services
delivery. An adequate medical information system is vital not only for assessing the
health needs of populations and groups, but also for planning and implementation of
health interventions. The "Otorhinolaryngology Information System (ORLIS)" is a web
based application for healthcare providers of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology in
Philippine General Hospital to store, retrieve, collate and process data required for
reports generation in a faster, efficient and accurate way. The system is designed for the
Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Specialty Clinics (for out-patients) and Ward
admissions (for ER and in-patients) of the Department. The system also includes a
simple imaging program to visualize Otorhinolaryngology physical examination.
