Governance in tourism industry: identifying policies that protect workers rights in the high-class escorting industry.

Abstract

This paper focuses on one of the lesser known subcategories of prostitution: the High-class escorting industry. This qualitative study discusses how the government could protect the rights of High-class escorts as workers through the use of existing policies and laws using Rational Choice theory and the theory of Constructivism. Data were collected in the Ermita-Malate Manila Area as this is one of the biggest center that caters to the High-class escorting industry in Metro Manila. The findings revealed that there are ways on how the government could protect the workers’ rights of high-class escorts with the existing laws and policies, however there are only a few ways and most high-class escorts do not seek help from authorities due to: lack of trust in authorities and the stigma that most people associates with the job. Furthermore, findings also explained how high class escorting works as an industry and why high-class escorts who are well-educated would choose high-class escorting as a career.
