Title: An Evaluation of Foreign Assistance Through Transport Infrastructure Projects of Department of Public Works and Highways in National Capital Region
Authors: Yrreverre, Michelle R.
Abstract: The study aims to determine if foreign assistance spent on transport infrastructure in the
National Capital Region generate economic growth to the country. It was inferred that it could
solve economic problems and lead to growth but it can also create problem because of
complications brought by conditions and additional debt. The study looked at the project's
background, agreements, and the relationships between NCR's Gross Domestic Product and
Foreign Borrowing. It was proven correct that foreign assistance spent on transport
infrastructure generates growth, however, projects continue to increase and agreements appear
to control the country. These variables affect the country's well and full use of the funds. It is
thus, only an immediate economic growth but creates debt problem in the long-term.

An Assessment on the Planning Management and Policy-Making and Implementation of the Central Bank of the Function of Serving the National Interest

Title: An Assessment on the Planning Management and Policy-Making and Implementation of the Central Bank of the Function of Serving the National Interest
Authors: Young, Karla Kim D.
Abstract: The Philippine economy is still suffering from an economic slump. Due to high
budget deficit and devaluation of the peso, more and more Filipinos are unemployed and
living in poverty. To combat such dilemma, the Central Bank of the Philippines is vested
to supervise the Philippine Financial System. Through sound policies and effective
implementation that aims to deliver a high quality of life for all Filipinos and a balanced
and sustainable growth to the economy they could greatly improve the country's plight.
However, with its 54 years and still continuing service, a lot of policies were made that
purports to serve the interest of the rich local and foreign capitalists. Through in depth
assessment and research of their policies and programs, the Central Bank failed to meet
its mission in serving the national interest of the Filipino people.

The Socio-Economic-Political Situation of the Townsfolk of Little Samar in Navotas: A Case Study

Title: The Socio-Economic-Political Situation of the Townsfolk of Little Samar in Navotas: A Case Study
Authors: Manalansan, Ivy V.
Abstract: Development is a process of social transformation and human development
wherein tile people are both the subject and object of development.
In an era where economies and countries consolidate to become one global
village, the Philippines is doing its best to integrate itself in the global arena. To become
at par with the developing and advanced countries, our government anchored itself on the
so-called globalization. We adopted development strategies meant to uplift not only our
economy's status but also the lives of the people.
Past and present administrations focused on developing the economy. Different
policies and programs were implemented so as to realize the much elusive dream of
economic growth. Economic growth that aims to improve the people's lives. For
centuries, we, as with the other countries, upheld the theory that economic prosperity
would eventually trickle down to the people.
All over the world, human development has been pursued to be the relevant
manifestation of economic growth. The Little Samar fisherfolks who dwell in an urban
depressed area is an apparent picture that it has all been simply an empty rhetoric.
So, what is economic growth if it does not improve people's lives?
Development is a point of no return wherein human development and equity are
not seen as trade-offs.

The Impact of Privatization on Government Hospitals

Title: The Impact of Privatization on Government Hospitals
Authors: Eleosida, Caren Joy A.
Abstract: This paper aims to probe deeper into the effects of
privatization on government hospitals especially on its indigent
patients and health workers.
This paper is divided into nine parts. The first part is the
introduction which shows the presentation of the statement of
objectives, review of related literature, research methodology as
well as the significance of the study. The second part discusses the
trends in the privatization of health services. Commercialization
and privatization is discussed in the third part. The privatization
background and rationale and the reasons for privatizing
government hospitals are discussed in Chapters 5 and 6. The
impact of privatization on government hospitals and its effects on
health workers and indigent patients is discussed in Chapter 7.
Chapter 8 shows the struggle against privatization. The final part
is the conclusion.
The researcher was able to conclude that the privatization
of government hospitals brings more death and disease instead of
what it promised to be as "health in the hands of the people."
Privatization of government hospitals breed ill health and the
health workers and the patients - especially the poor and the
peasants - are always at the losing end.
