Relocating and resettling families from private properties, industrial areas, and danger zones are usually good indicators of government support to the poorest and most marginalized sectors in society. However, in the Philippines, even with numerous housing programs, people still choose to live in squalor in danger zones, illegal lands, and shanties. This study seeks to understand the rationale behind that choice, and why the current state of the relocation programs of the government is not working to its fullest extent. This research will dissect the history of socialized housing in the Philippines, the current programs of the government for the illegal settlers, and the planning process of the government institutions dedicated to solving the issue of housing and development in the Philippines.en_US
