Title: | The Correlation of a Nurse‘s Life Status and Job Performance |

Abstract: | This study sought to: 1) determine the relation of one‘s life and/or familial status to their job performance and 2) identify similar and contrasting points among two groups of employees in terms of motivations and attitude that affect their job performance. Researches have claimed that married men earn more than single men (although the measurement of productivity is another matter and is still not down to an exact science). On the other hand, there are some interesting – at times contradictory – claims about single individuals such as that they are less committed and less responsible compared to married people but are willing to put in more hours. This study aims to find out if people can assume one‘s effectiveness at their job based on the presence of a wedding ring and baby photos. The sample consisted of 115 staff nurses from two private hospitals in Metro Manila. To measure their job performance, team leaders were asked to assess their subordinates using a job performance assessment tool. Interviews were also conducted among the staff nurses to further explore the multiple factors that play a role in their effectiveness in the workplace. |
