dc.description.abstract | Various studies about the elderly have been done around the world. In the Philippines however, there are limited studies about them, particularly on their quality of life and social participation. This study aimed to understand the influence of social participation on the quality of life of senior citizens in Mandaluyong City. To get a better understanding of the social participation and quality of life of senior citizens, the research utilized a qualitative research design, specifically phenomenology. With a semi-structured and open-ended interview guide as the data gathering tool, a total of six senior citizens participated in the study. Results showed that the quality of life of senior citizens involved four important factors: psychological health, physical health, social relations, and the environment. On the other hand, social participation activities include recreational and leisure activities and social activities. The influence of social participation on the quality of life of senior citizens was found to be positive and correspond to a better quality of life, influencing one’s psychological health, physical health, and fostering social relations. | en_US |
