dc.description.abstract | This thesis, entitled Heteronormative Attitudes of Male Students in UP Manila, focuses on how heteronormative male students are in UP Manila and the factors that influence their views on sexuality. This research focuses on a non-sectarian State University in a predominantly Catholic country. Heteronormativity is defined as the giving of privileges to heterosexuals which results in society treating those who are non-heterosexuals as undesirables. Males were chosen as respondents because in a heteronormative society, males are considered to be in the uppermost tier. Heteronormativity reinforces the idea that heterosexuality is the norms and that people should conform to set gender roles. 100 males students were given a questionnaire measuring how heteronormative their attitudes were. The questionnaire consists of twenty-nine questions. At the end of the questionnaire, the respondents were asked to choose among five factors, they had to choose the factor that was most influential to them regarding their views on sexuality. Religion has been known to be an influential factor but can College education be possibly more effective in reinforcing beliefs about sexuality? | en_US |
