dc.description.abstract | The study aimed to define the Filipino adolescent’s concept of narcissism which was shown to be centered on self-love and vanity. Independent t tests were done on a number of groups (BA and BS courses, male and female, urban and rural dwellers, positive and negative attitude towards narcissism, admitting to be a narcissist and not) to find out if there were significant differences. Correlations with age, socio-economic status, and number of organizations were also done. Among the group comparisons, the following were noted: (1) there was a significant difference in the narcissism subscales self-centeredness and exploitativeness between males and females with the former scoring higher; (2) those who have a positive attitude toward narcissism scored significantly higher in the concept than those with a negative attitude; and (3) between those who admit they are narcissistic and not, there was a significant difference in their narcissism score and its corresponding subscales except for exploitativeness. There were also significant and positive correlations between: (1) age and narcissism and its subscale grandiosity; (2) family income with the subscale vanity; (3) number of organizations a respondent belongs to and narcissism, exhibitionism and grandiosity subscales; and (4) being and wanting to be an officer to narcissism, grandiosity and vanity subscales. | en_US |
