Abstract: This study attempted to explore the life situation of Filipino male homosexuals, aged 40 year’s and above. In particular, their experiences in relation to their adjustment to aging, as well as their perceived quality of life were assessed. One hundred and fifty-five aging male homosexuals were purposively approached to participate in the study. Upon obtaining an informed consent, the respondents completed a survey questionnaire inquiring on socio-demographic profile, past and cun-ent lifestyles, history of intimate relationships, experience of lifetime abuse and neglect, acceptance of aging, and quality of life. Key infonnant interviews were also carried out to provide deeper insights on the life situation and concerns of aging male homosexuals. The results of the study revealed the following findings. First, the respondents experienced decline in activities associated with the gay lifestyle where majority are currently single. Second, physical and psychological neglect as well as sexual abuse were relatively common. Third, in general, the respondents possessed positive perceptions toward aging. Fourth, the respondents rated their overall quality of life as “good”. Finally, the multivariate analysis indicated that educational attainment, attitude towards aging, age at first recognition of homosexual tendencies, and experiences of physical and psychological neglect were significant predictors of perceived quality of life. To conclude, this study was able to provide an alternative model of aging homosexuality in contrast to the stereotypic image of a lonely, depressed, and socially isolated group. Recommendations were made to address policies, programs and further research on aging homosexuality.
