Opinion of the Employers on the Proposed Professionalization of Kasambahay in the Municipality of Cainta, Rizal

Abstract

The work of a kasambahay is a combination of work done by professional and a skilled worker, yet unlike the former, the kasambahay does not get the same status and privileges. The aim of this study is to determine the opinion of the employers of the kasambahay on the proposed professionalization of the kasambahay. A structured questionnaire was designed to measure the employers’ assessment of the performance of their kasambahay in terms of the chores and their attitudes. The questionnaire was also used to describe the views and attitudes of the employers on the proposed professionalization of the kasambahay. Two hundred respondents composed of employers of kasambahay from the municipality of Cainta participated in the study. The results obtained from the assessment of die kasambahay’s performance as well as the opinion of the employers were tabulated and analyzed using measures of central tendency and frequency, with the help of programs like Microsoft Excel and SPSS 14.0. Results suggest that the performance of the kasambahay both with the chores and their person- oriented skills still meet the expectations of the employers. At the same time, the employers generally approve of the professionalization of the kasambahay as far as standardizing the compensation and benefits are concerned.
