Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis was applied to three previously recognized species of Oliva from the Visayas. Total genomic DNA was extracted from the ethanol-preserved samples following the method of Chomczynski et al. (1997) with some modifications. To assay genetic polymorphisms, the genomic DNAs were subjected to Polymerase Chain Reaction using one random primer. Different RAPD fragment patterns were observed for the different species. Analysis of the data using Popgene ver. 1.31 showed separation of the samples into four discrete groups - O. vidua, O. amythestina, O. reticulata and O. tigridella.en_US
