The study, "Hating Kapatid: A study of sibling rivalry among urban poor family," focused in the family affairs of urban poor communities specifically the significant effect of the socioeconomic status of the family in the formation of sibling rivalry. This was done through a quantitative research method using survey questionnaire that serve as the instrument to assess the relation of socioeconomic status in the existence of sibling rivalry. The population in focus is the Barangay 373, Zone 38, 3rd District Tambunting St., Sta. Cruz, Manila. The community, based on the barangay profile, is mostly composed of "low income [family]/ depress area, that suits the research study. In the virtue of attaining the primary objective in this study, the survey questionnaire was conducted to 82 families that qualify to the set qualifications (i.e family income). The questionnaire identify the respondent's family, determine the profile of the respondent's, establish if there is the occurrence of sibling rivalry between and among the respondents, and identify which among socioeconomic variables is responsible for causing sibling rivalry. The research yielded positive results. It showed that family income, one of the four determinants of socioeconomic status, is directly related or significantly associated to sibling rivalry. It can be concluded that the lower the income and the higher the number of children in a family could result to an unfavorable sibling relationship such as sibling rivalry. Other socioeconomic variables are needed to gather more sufficient data to prove the significance of association to sibling rivalry.en_US
