Authors: Mag-aro, Eda Mira B.
Issue Date: Apr-2007
Abstract: Rare books are just a fraction of Philippine culture and heritage. These books are rich sources of information and are keys to the past. These books help the people of today trace back the way of life, series of events and famous icons that were during the previous years. The study gives a brief background on publication of rare books, what are rare books, what hazards do rare books encounter, what processes do rare books undergo to rescue and to prevent them from further damage. The Lopez Memorial Museum is an institution that possesses some rare books in the Philippines. With the description given, the museum holds the responsibility of taking care of the rare books. Conservation and preservation of rare books are just two of the many treatments to help save the rare books of the Philippines. The study aims to present and evaluate the treatment currently done by the museum to its rare book collection. Evaluation includes the effectiveness and efficiency of the treatment based on guidelines set by the museum.
