The study is on Philippine education, specifically on the new program/curriculum implemented by the Department of Education for basic education—the Makabayan. This program is evaluated in this study to see whether it does promote progressive education as it claims using the theories of Paolo Freire on education as the main criteria. Here, the history and features of the Makabayan is discussed, as well as the history and features of a Freire type of education. These two are then brought face to face to see whether the former measures up to the latter's ideas. According to the findings, the Makabayan does not promote progressiveness. Recommendations on how to further the study are also given at the end.en_US
