Localizing health justice: a political-economic analysis of the state of healthcare centers in the contiguous barangays in Malolos City.

Abstract

Primary healthcare (PHC) is seen as the key to achieving the universal goal of health for all (HFA). In the Philippines, primary healthcare works in the context of the community or more specifically, the barangay. In this level, it attacks the root of health problems: lifestyle, environment, and structures. Yet even this localized approach is vulnerable to the impacts of urbanization, industrialization and modernization. The research seeks to determine the state of the main institution that renders the primary healthcare to the barangay population. It identifies and evaluates how the local government responds to these negative impacts on the population health. Ultimately, it reveals to what extent the goal of universal health is achieved in the context of the urbanization of Malolos.
