Title: Impact on living conditions of in-city relocation: a case study of Bistekville II-Barangay Kaligayahan, Quezon City
Authors: Porlucas, Nestor J. Jr
Issue Date: 2016
Abstract: This study is an attempt to assess the impact of Bistekville II housing project in Quezon City, Metro Manila on the living conditions of its dwellers by comparing the residents’ lives before and after resettlement. The impact analysis is based on the indicators of impoverishment risks due to displacement and resettlement formulated by Cernea (2000) in his Impoverishment Risks and Reconstruction (IRR) model. The findings shall indicate the presence/absence of the following forms of impoverishment provided by the theoretical framework: landlessness, joblessness, homelessness, marginalization, food insecurity, increased morbidity and mortality, loss of access to common property and services, and social disarticulation. This paper would therefore evaluate one of the nine Bistekvilles in Quezon City, and would assess if these in-city relocation projects have achieved their purpose or not.
