Abstract: Tinta-tintahan, or Eclipta alba, is an invasive weed known for its medicinal uses. The extract was screened for its phytochemical constituents, and the ability of the extract to inhibit the growth of the A549 cancer cell line was tested using the MTT assay. Its ability to scavenge free radicals was also investigated by employing the DPPH assay. Results show that the extract contains several metabolites, is non-cytotoxic toward the selected cancer cell line but exhibited scavenging activity by 63.20%. The TLC profiles of the extract were also established to determine the appropriate solvent for the isolation and purification of the extract components which is a 6:4 ratio of petroleum ether to ethylacetate.
