<title>A Study on the Rehabilitation Project of the St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish Church</title>
<link>http://dspace.cas.upm.edu.ph:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/3660</link>
<description>A Study on the Rehabilitation Project of the St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish Church
Guda, Abigail G.
The Study on the Rehabilitation Project of St. Alphonsus Mary&#13;
de Liguori Parish Church answers the question: How was the&#13;
rehabilitation of the St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish&#13;
Church managed? It examines the two fundamental aspects of&#13;
project management, which are planning and implementation. The&#13;
study documents the history and background, and the&#13;
architectural features of the St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori&#13;
Parish Church prior to the rehabilitation project. The study&#13;
also documents the rehabilitation project and the changes made&#13;
to the original structure.&#13;
In 1968, National Artist for Architecture Leandro V. Locsin&#13;
designed the St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish Church, whose&#13;
design is the precursor of that of the Folk Arts Theater.&#13;
Unfortunately, in September 9, 2005, the interior of the parish&#13;
church was badly damaged in a fire brought about by faulty&#13;
electrical wiring. The damage was extensive that only the 28&#13;
concrete buttresses and the fins of the old church structure&#13;
remained which accounts to 70-80% of the whole structure.&#13;
Through the initiative of parish priest, Rev. Fr. Benito B.&#13;
Tuazon, and the collaboration of the parish community, the&#13;
church underwent rehabilitation with Dominic Galicia as its new architect. There are two committees-the Fundraising Committee&#13;
and the Construction Committee-formed to handle the management&#13;
of the rehabilitation project of the St. Alphonsus Mary de&#13;
Liguori Parish Church.&#13;
With the proper guidance of Architect Dominic Galicia, the&#13;
parish decided on a&#13;
returning a building&#13;
preserving the features&#13;
rehabilitation project which involves&#13;
into use through alteration while&#13;
of the original building which are&#13;
significant to its historical and architectural value. Architect&#13;
Dominic Galicia, as a member of the Advisory Council of the&#13;
Heritage Conservation Society, was very much concerned about&#13;
preserving the remaining concrete structures of the old church&#13;
to honor the work of Architect Leandro V. Locsin as a National&#13;
Artist.&#13;
However, in any construction project for churches, the need of&#13;
the parish should be attended first before any architectural&#13;
concern. As a result, in the design of the rehabilitated parish&#13;
church, the remaining fins of the old church had to be&#13;
eliminated in the process to provide room for the frontline and&#13;
in the mezzanine. In the rehabilitated St. Alphonsus Mary de&#13;
Liguori Parish Church, the 28 concrete buttresses were the only&#13;
parts of the old church structure that were retained. Hence,&#13;
Architect Leandro V. Locsin' s essential architectural character of massive floating roof slab can no longer be seen. The reason&#13;
for this can be attributed to the primary concern of addressing&#13;
to the need of the parish for a bigger place of worship.&#13;
With only few refinements left, the St. Alphonsus Mary de&#13;
Liguori Parish Church was ready for use in time for the feast&#13;
day of Saint Alphonsus on August 01, 2007. The actual&#13;
rehabilitation project took almost two years which corresponds&#13;
to what Architect Dominic Galicia has expected. In terms of the&#13;
actual cost, the proposed budget of 40 million escalated to more&#13;
than 64 million due to unavoidable circumstance which is the&#13;
high inflation rate during the rehabilitation project.&#13;
The St. Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish was successful in its&#13;
seven objectives for the rehabilitated parish Church. The first in&#13;
accordance with the Liturgical Requirements of the Catholic&#13;
Church-was achieved through the constant communication of the&#13;
parish to the Liturgical Commission. The second-it will imbibe&#13;
and express the charisma of the patron saint, St. Alphonsus-was&#13;
ensured with the extensive research done by Architect Dominic&#13;
Galicia about the life and work of St. Alphonsus and&#13;
incorporating it in the design of the rehabilitated parish&#13;
church. The third-it will be durable and could withstand the&#13;
test of time and natural threats-was ensured by hiring a world&#13;
expert in seismic engineering, Structural Engineer Carlos Villaraza. The fourth-it will be functional and worshipper oriented-&#13;
is brought about by complying with the Liturgical&#13;
Guidelines. The fifth-done in the most economical way possible was&#13;
achieved by applying the concept of value engineering and&#13;
direct negotiation of the parish with the suppliers. The fifth environmentally&#13;
concerned-was attained by the incorporation of&#13;
operable glass window in the church's new design. The last something&#13;
bigger-was achieved by adding a mezzanine level.&#13;
The study concluded that the rehabilitation of the St.&#13;
Alphonsus Mary de Liguori Parish Church was effectively and&#13;
efficiently managed by the key people involved which aid for the&#13;
achievement of the vision and objectives of the parish. This was&#13;
realized through the careful planning, constant coordination,&#13;
and having vision and objectives. Consequently, a magnificent&#13;
and liturgically sound parish church comes out from the ruins of&#13;
the original structure.&#13;
Furthermore, even though, the 28 concrete buttresses are now&#13;
only 20-30% of the new church, it is worth mentioning that the&#13;
parish made an effort to save what was left of the church&#13;
designed by National Artist for Architecture Leandro Locsin.&#13;
Having a background on architectural heritage preservation is of&#13;
great importance. Without this, what was left of the church&#13;
might have been totally lost.

<title>A Museum Collections Study of the Local Church Based Museum in Manaoag, Pangasinan</title>
<link>http://dspace.cas.upm.edu.ph:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/3656</link>
<description>A Museum Collections Study of the Local Church Based Museum in Manaoag, Pangasinan
Cruz, Merbennyl C.
Manaoag, a town 4 00 years old, is truly a place wealthy with the arts, culture and tradition. The town is a destination for religious pilgrimage.&#13;
Our Lady of Manaoag Museum is the only ecclesiastical&#13;
museum under the supervision and care of the Dominicans in the&#13;
whole town and in the entire Pangasinan. The Manaoag church has&#13;
succeeded in putting up a museum for their collections.&#13;
&#13;
The collections of the museum consist of religious objects&#13;
that were used in early times during celebrations and functions&#13;
by priests, and al so objects given by devotees of the Blessed&#13;
Virgin of Manaoag as their way of showing their love for Her.&#13;
Some of the objects, most especially the instruments used by the&#13;
priests and their assistants in masses, benediction, Holy&#13;
Sacrament, baptism, etc., such as the priests' vestments, a re&#13;
four centuries old. Part of the recent collections like the&#13;
per fumes, and accessories such as jewelry and rosaries of the&#13;
Blessed Mother are greater in number than the religious objects&#13;
of the church.&#13;
This study is on the Manaoag museum collections, focusing&#13;
on the policies and pr act ices of Our Lady of Manaoaq Museum.&#13;
There are no written policies for the museum, especially for &#13;
their collections. Collections management policy is very&#13;
essential for the collections to be well preserved and&#13;
maintained. Policies on collecting, documenting and research&#13;
should be made by the museum for its development, and co guide&#13;
them when the opportunity comes for museum expansion.&#13;
Due to the fact that the Our Lady of Manaoag museum lacks&#13;
collections management policies, the researcher proposed one for&#13;
them. The proposal will consist of the purpose or the objective&#13;
of the museum, its goals, and will also serve as a guide for&#13;
them in performing the aspects and functions of collections&#13;
management acquiring, documenting, research, conservation,&#13;
security, and exhibit ion. It will best describe the museum and&#13;
help them perform these functions well.&#13;
Now as the museum turns two in May 2002, the church should&#13;
feel the need to be systematic in managing the museum, most&#13;
especially with regards to its collections.

<description>Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-atihan: Ang Mga Pagbabago sa Pagdiriwang
De Aro, Devriz B.
Ang "Kalibo Santo Nino Ati-atihan: Ang Mga Pagbabago sa Pagdiriwang sa&#13;
Loob ng I 990 Hanggang 2007'' ay naglalayong malaman ang mga pagbabago du lot ng&#13;
panahon. Sa pagdiriwang na ito hinanap ang mga pagbabago sa pagdiriwang simula ng&#13;
taong 1990 hanggang 2007. Layunin din ng pag-aaral na ito na malaman kung masama o&#13;
maganda ang epekto ng pagbabago sa pagdiriwang.&#13;
Ang metodolihiyang ginamit sa pag-aaral na ito ay ang pagsusuri sa mga aklat,&#13;
maga,ine, inilahad sa internet, larawan at listahan ng mga krimen. Nagbigay din ng mga&#13;
katanungan sa nag-oorganisa ng pista, mamamayan ng Kalibo, pari at mga pulis sa&#13;
Kalibo. Sinuri ang mga datos na nakuha ng mananaliksik at nakakuha siya ng kasagutan&#13;
sa kanyang suliranin.&#13;
Ang mga pagbabagong nakita ng mga pangunahing impormante ay ang&#13;
sumusunod: una ay pagdami ng mga aktibidades sa pagdiriwang dahil sa Kalibo Atiatihan&#13;
Management Board katulad ng mga Kainan sa Plaza, pinahabang sayawan sa&#13;
Magsaysay Park at paligsahan sa kostyum, pangalawa ay magastos sa mamamayan ng&#13;
Kalibo at karatig lugar, pangtatlo ay sayawan o sadsad sa daan ay sinasabayan na ng&#13;
lantarang inuman, pang-apat ay ang Magsaysay Park ay naging lugar na ng !aha! na&#13;
aktibidades na pang-gabi katulad ng "bayle" o sayawan, panglima ay pagbabago sa mga&#13;
tawag ng mga aktibidades katulad ng Kalibo Santo Nii\o Ati-atihan na dati ay Kalibo Atiatihan,&#13;
pang-anim ay pagsali ng mga taga-ibang lugar sa paligsahan ng kostyum.

<title>Ang Bultong ng Banaue, Ifugao</title>
<link>http://dspace.cas.upm.edu.ph:8080/xmlui/handle/123456789/3652</link>
<description>Ang Bultong ng Banaue, Ifugao
Manipod, Christina C.
Ang tesis na i to ay may layuning masagot ang&#13;
katanungang " A&#1048635;o nga· ba ang tradisyong llul tong sa Banaue,&#13;
Ifugao? Sekundaryong suliranin ang katanungang, "Buhay pa&#13;
ba ito sa kasalukuyang panahon?"&#13;
Ang mga katanungang ito ay nasagot sa pamamagitan ng&#13;
mga hakbang na isinagawa ng mananaliksik. Una sa lahat ang&#13;
pagpunta sa Banaue at sa mga ilang barangay nito upang&#13;
kapanayamin ang mga matatandang may alam sa tradisyon.&#13;
Nakatulong din ang panayam sa mga kawani ng pamahalaan&#13;
partikular na ang NCIP Lagawe at NCIP sa Quezon City, o ang&#13;
National Commission on Indigenous People. Mas naunawaan pa&#13;
din ang konseptong ito nang magkaroon ng re-enacment ni to&#13;
sa Bangaan Village, Ifugao. Dahil dito, naobserbahan ng&#13;
mananaliksik ang buong paraan ng pagsasagawa ng tradisyon.&#13;
Hindi rin maikakaila ang malaking tulong ng pagsasaliksik&#13;
sa mga silid-aklatan kung saan may nakuha pang mga datos&#13;
ukol sa tradisyong ito.&#13;
Sa pagtatapos ng pag-aaral, napag-alamang ang bul tong&#13;
ay isang ritwal na binubuo ng materyal at di-materyal na&#13;
elemento. Ito ay mai tuturing ding sagrado at hindi bast a&#13;
bas ta ang pagsasagawa. Ang materyal na elemento ng&#13;
pakikipagbuno sa katunggali bilang pagpapakita ng lakas ng&#13;
kalalakihan sa Ifugao at bilang paraan ng pagsasaayos ng&#13;
usapin sa lupa, ang pagsigaw bago lumusob sa katunggali,&#13;
ang canao na isinasagawa bago ang bultong na kinapapalooban&#13;
naman ng pagkatay sa isang alay tulad ng manok na&#13;
nagsisimbolo ng offering sa mga diyos na siya ding&#13;
pinagbabasehan ng kapalaran ng kalahok sa pamamagi tan ng&#13;
pagsusuri sa bile o apdo nito, ang canao pa din matapos ang&#13;
bultong at ang hid.it o peace pact ng magkabilang panig. Ang di-materyal na elementong naki ta ay ang myth na&#13;
pinagmula nito; ang tradisyon ng pagsasagawa nito na&#13;
pinamumunuan ng mga elders; ang oral na tradisyon na&#13;
ipinasa ng mga matatancla sa Ifugao partikular na ang mga&#13;
mumbaki; ang debosyon sa mga diyos at ninuno na nakikita sa&#13;
panalangin sa cafiao; ang demand nito o pangangailangan sa&#13;
pagsasagawa ni to kung saan may kinalaman sa usaping&#13;
pagmamay-ari ng lupa.&#13;
Ang bultong sa kasalukuyan ay bahagi ng Imbayah&#13;
Festival kung saan ito ay isang sports contest na&#13;
nilalahukan ng iba't ibang barangay sa Banaue. Ito ang&#13;
paraan ng pag-alala sa mga traclisyong Ifugao. Samakatuwicl&#13;
ang bultong ay buhay na lamang sa alaala ng mga tao sa&#13;
pamamagitan ng Imbayah. Ang festival na ito na ginaganap&#13;
kacla taon ang nagsisilbing tagapagpasigla sa traclisyon.&#13;
Nagsimula ang&#13;
nagpapatuloy pa&#13;
panahong ito ay&#13;
Imbayah sa Banaue noong taong 1979 at&#13;
rin hanggang&#13;
ang pagsasagawa&#13;
ngayon. Kasabay sa&#13;
din nito sa iba' t&#13;
mga&#13;
ibang&#13;
barangay sa Banaue bilang traclisyon sa pagsasaayos ng mga&#13;
s igalot sa 1 upa. Sa katunayan, may nai talang record ang&#13;
NCIP Lagawe ng totoong kaso nito sa pagitan ng dalawang&#13;
pamilya noong taong 2000. Nangangahulugan itong ang bultong&#13;
bilang ritwal ay may pinipiling panahon sa pagsasagawa. Ito&#13;
ay maituturing na seasonal lamang kung gawin. Isa ito sa&#13;
 mga salik na nakaapekto sa survival ng traktisyon. Mayroon na&#13;
rin makabago at mas mabilis na paraan ng pag-aayos ng&#13;
usapin sa lupa ngayon. Nariyan ang korte, abogado at mga&#13;
pag-uusap na iclinaclaan na lamang sa papel o dokumento.&#13;
Maaaring mas pinipili na lang sa ngayon ng mga katutubo sa&#13;
Banaue at sa iba pang bahagi ng Ifugao ang mas mabilis at&#13;
tiyak na pagsasaayos ng lupa. Ito ay sa papel na lamang o dokumento.
