Abstract:
Filipinos are no strangers to the internet culture and video patronage. In fact, they are quite active in the online community, whether it is as participants or as observers in the events of the electronic landscape. They are also one of the most prominent porn viewers in the world, being placed 26th in worldwide traffic. There have been also internet stereotypes referring to Filipinos which have been coined by the internet community due to how they make their presence known either. Pornography has been a long-time mainstay in the internet culture as an avenue for sexual satisfaction. It has been criticized as needlessly sexualizing women and using them as a form of profit. There is also no legal porn production industry in the country due to the Catholic nature and standards continuously imposed on the citizens and pressured applied on the state by the church. But a certain problem that arose was the ongoing rates of increase in the patronage of child pornography, both in online and offline materials. This could arguably be the worst "innovation" to come out from the porn industry. Production of child porn capitalizes on the vulnerability of the child to the world around him and in some cases even the vulnerability of the child's family itself in their state of poverty and depression.
