Abstract:
This qualitative study aimed to analyze the approaches that different organizations have towards nepotism. From the data, nepotism was still present in organizations. The researcher observed this phenomenon during his internship at the Department of Foreign Affairs and after learning about some of their employment guidelines. To examine these approaches, the researcher conducted a qualitative study through structured interviews with the head from each of the Human Resources divisions of the organizations chosen supplemented by a survey given to employees of the same division. Three organizations were chosen for this study: a private organization, a branch or department of the government, and a non-government organization. Data was compiled and analyzed using the theories of management such as Fayol's Theory of Classical Management and Max Weber's Theory of Bureaucracy as framework. Once analyzed, the researcher determined what kind of approach an organization should take with regard to nepotism.
