This research focused on the Dumagats’ childrearing in Sitio Dike and Sitio Ipo, Norzagaray Bulacan. It aimed to determine and describe the numerous beliefs, knowledge, and practices of Dumagats in terms of childrearing. To achieve the goal of the research, case study approach was conducted. In-depth interviews and key informant interviews were utilized to gather data for the study. A total of twenty-three (23) Dumagat mothers participated in the in-depth interview. Mothers were picked through purposive conducive sampling wherein they have to satisfy the following criteria: (1) part of the Dumagat community, (2) age ranges from 18 yrs. old to 81 yrs. old, (3) have given birth to at least one child. On the other hand, four (4) respondents who are picked through purposive sampling participated in the key informant interview. The data gathered for the study were analyzed by locating emerging and significant themes. The study found out that indigenous beliefs and practices are still present in the area although there have been interventions that resulted to their alterations. Many have now subscribed with these novel ideas and practices. The Dumagats’ childrearing practices and beliefs are now a mixture of traditional and modern beliefs and practices. |
