Abstract:
This study basically tackles the situation of public and private teachers -
particularly, high school teachers - with regards to their condition, salary and benefits.
The main point of this study is to compare the situation of public and private high school
teachers in Las Pinas City.
This study focuses more on the teachers’ salaries and benefits. It discusses the
salary that teachers receive - whether they are exploited with the salary they receive or
not - and comparing among public and private teachers the extent of exploitation of
teachers. Aside from this, the benefits listed by the Philippine government are also
included in this study - studying whether these benefits are received by the teachers and
the difference of the benefits that are received by public and private teachers.
With regards to the teachers’ salaries, the deductions were also considered in
order to determine how much was left to the teachers after all deductions. This is
important because, in comparing salaries between public and private high school
teachers, net salary - which teachers actually receive and consume - are also important to
determine. This study also presents the conditions of high school teachers in public and
private high schools. The teachers were asked regarding the facilities, teaching
experiences and subject loads - which are important to know when looking at the
situations of teachers.
This study is important in order to determine the standards of life of an important
portion of the society - the teachers - who have been important factors of the shaping of
our society.
