Abstract:
This thesis is an analysis on the development of the city of Taguig. It traces the social and economic changes in Taguig from the pre-Spanish era to the contemporary period that were regarded as the stimulating factors of its cityhood. It also presented the process of the cityhood of Taguig and its implications to the locale and its residents. This study referred to different literatures about cities and urbanization and related these to the case of Taguig. Official documents and various publications were also examined to understand the present state of Taguig. The proponent also used data- gathering instruments such as surveys and key-informant interviews to interpret the positive and negative implications of the cityhood. After analyzing the findings of the study, the researcher came to a conclusion that the hypothesis, which states that the cityhood was a logical conclusion of the socioeconomic development that Taguig experienced in the past decades and that the cityhood also translates to positive and negative changes, is correct.
