Abstract:
The study entitled “An Ethnography of Multiplayer Gaming: An Insider Perspective” is an ethnographic study of gamers that caters multiplayer games. Using qualitative methods such participant observations indirect and direct interviews and focus group discussion, the study provided detailed description of gamers in both online and actual gaming context. Likewise it presented first-hand data in the framework of an insider perspective, disregarding underlying stereotypes and general conclusions about gaming. The study further described several aspects of gaming in thick descriptions like the actual physicality of the gaming context, gamers’ motivations, norms, beliefs, customs and its material culture. The research asserts that gaming in its pure form is a rich subculture in which gamers create and mold their identity in terms of their unique day to day activities, values, norms and belief.
