Abstract:
Domestic Workers or Kasambahays have played a crucial role in the homes of
Filipino families in the Philippines. These kasambahays are the people who make our
lives easier at home by performing household chores for us like cleaning, cooking,
and washing. Despite the obvious need for domestic workers, their occupation has
not been recognized as a part of the formal labor force that receives proper
treatment, wages and benefits. They remain to be part of the informal sector, thus,
often neglected and uncared for. This study focuses on the domestic workers in the city of Pasig. The study
aims to determine the current condition of these domestic workers with a focus on
their backgrounds, economic and social status, problems and their knowledge on
their rights and welfare as workers in the Philippines. The principal goal of this
study is to identify the role of the government in serving and protecting the rights
and welfare of these kasambahays.
