Abstract:
One of the bioactive compounds that has been isolated from various parts of Moringa
oleifera (malunggay) is 3-O-[6’-0O-oleoyl-B-D-glucosyl]-B-sitosterol, generally known
as acylglucosylsterol. Isolation of this compound involves solvent fractionation, liquid
column chromatography and thin layer chromatography. The isolated compound was
tested for its cytotoxic effect on leukemic cells. A cytotoxicity assay, based on blue trypan dye exclusion method, revealed an LC50 of 38 mg/ml. en leukemic cells.
Administration of acylglucosylsterol was also found to cause changes in the differential
leukocyte counts of ICR strain albino mice injected with 22% bovine serum albumin as
immunogen.
