Abstract:
Homosexuality had been part of Philippines for so long. Proliferation of this
gender had happened because of the maturing mentality of the society. Slowly, the idea
of being gay is gaining tolerance to the community.
Being gay is simply being like any other individual. It is the celebration of one's
individuality and freedom of choice. This is a free democratic country so all of us have
the right to be free and do everything as long as it is under the law.
Each one of us is distinct from one another. We have our very own knack for
doing things. Each of us has a role to fulfill in the society and this is regardless of
gender differences. However small our contribution as a person might be, collectively, it
could make a certain difference.
Not all people have open and liberal minds. Some refuse to grow and accept the
current situations and happenings and remained locked up in the old tradition and ways.
These people who close their minds to the reality that things changes, were the one’s
who usually condemn homosexuality especially the kabaklaan. They do not even try to
understand what is it because they judge it prior as something deviant. These closed
minds were the cause for Gay's hard life. Negative thoughts created about them foster
for hatred to grow for some people.
In this study, the researcher had depicted the life of student gays under the
organization named Society for Homosexual Emergence in Far Eastern University
through life stories. She got these stories by personally interviewing her subjects. The
gays she had interviewed had been very accommodating and had rigorously answered
all her questions. The researcher found the interview enriching and fun. The world she
had discovered though full of sentiments of prejudice and inequality, was never dull for
these people know how to cope with things. They have ways of adapting to the society,
with its culture and norms to prevent further discrimination. It is their way to live life to
the fullest. As individuals, they have their rights and freedom and this is what they fight
for.
