This is a descriptive study of the state of non-conventional
therapies in an urban setting. The study measured the
respondents’ knowledge and application of non-conventional
therapies as well as determined the factors that affected their
usage. The therapies were limited to aromatherapy, art therapy,
exercise, healing, herbalism, hydrotherapy, hypnotherapy,
iridology, massage, music therapy, nutrition, reflexology,
visualization and yoga. Sample population comprised of 160
residents of Barangay San Isidro, Makati City. The questionnaires
used contained items on the respondents’ demographic data, their
level of knowledge and use of non-conventional therapies, and
their practice of these therapies. Results showed that the
residents of San Isidro had little knowledge and seldom use of
these therapies. It revealed that among the factors identified, the
educational attainment of the respondent had the greatest
influence in their utilization of the therapies. |
