Abstract:
Aptly named “Sin City,” the strip along Clark Air base called Fields Avenue is the place to be if you’re looking for “entertainment.” Aside from the endless flow of alcohol, women were considered a commodity in these parts of town, selling of their bodies in exchange for money. Foreigners can’t resist having a taste of what the city has to offer: an experience with an angel. But reality is cruel and the “angels” of angles city are far from heaven.
A never ending supply of women suffering from impoverished circumstances and the continuous patronage of both local and foreign clientele are factors that fuel the sex industry in Angeles City. The absence of choice, a source of easy money and the illusion of a greener pasture lure hundreds of women every year into flesh trade but are trapped by the ever-piling debt.
Amidst this blatant abuse of women’s rights, the government, the very institution whose purpose is to serve its people, turns a blind eye to this phenomenon, and in fact fact is the main supporter of the industry through regulation and tourism policies that promote prostitution.
