Abstract:
The internet is a powerful tool for acquiring information and knowledge that can
be used by almost everybody. However the internet a massive amount of information that
can instead of helping a web browser to find information that he/she needs, this massive
amount of information can obstruct in finding the right information. It is therefore
important that a person knows when and how to find the right information in the World
Wide Web. This study focuses on content analysis of different websites about Indigenous
People of the Philippines. Using seven search terms along with the help of two search
engines (Yahoo and Google) the different websites concerning the Indigenous People of
the Philippines were listed and analyzed for six weeks. Results of the study showed that
search terms and search engines directly affect the kind of information that a person
could find in the internet. The websites could be categorized into four classifications:
Informative, Promotional, Advocacy and Commercial Websites. Each category is based
on their content and the nature of information found on that website.
