Abstract:
This study was conducted to compare and assess the social services and benefits received by the senior citizens of both the city of Makati and the city of Manila from the perspective of the elderlies themselves. Specifically, this research aimed to know the programs each city has prepared that are directed on the welfare of the elderlies. To gather the needed data, survey questionnaire was used. Basic frequency tests were used to know the significant differences between the variables. The researcher initially studied and analyzed the characteristics of the senior citizens then compared the socio-economic and health conditions in both cities. The researcher based his assumptions on the existing laws that cater to the needs of the elderly. The results showed that the senior citizens in the City of Makati really receive more benefits and social services than those in the City of Manila. This thesis identifies the issues and concerns of the elderly, which can help the government in managing and restructuring the laws and programs to provide better social services and benefits to the senior citizens who are poor and disenfranchised.
