Abstract:
Fifteen rice varieties and mutant lines were evaluated. Morphometric analysis was conducted. A phenogram was then constructed, indicating that Milagrosa Original and Milagrosa Mutant 6, and Bengawan Mutant and PARC2 (IR8 Mutant) had the closest relationships, respectively. The phenogram further revealed the degree of relationship each variety has with one another, based on morphology. Rice straw from these varieties were evaluated for their digestible organic matter and metabolizable energy using the in vitro gas method. Results indicate that among the orginal varieties, Bengawan has the highest digestibility, and IR8 has the lowest. On the other hand, among mutant variants, Denorado Mutant 1 has the highest digestibility and Bengawan Mutant has the lowest. With regards to the Metabolizable Energy of original varieties, Bengawan and Malagkit Sungsong, had the highest and lowest values, respectively. Among mutant variants, Denorado
Mutant 1 and PARC2 (IR8 Mutant) obtained the highest and lowest values, correspondingly. Integrating the results from these evaluation methods revealed that digestible organic matter and metabolizable energy could be predicted through regression equation using Morphometrics as variables.
