Abstract:
The study describes the ukay-ukay trade in Cubao by
characterizing the participants and their businesses, particular attention is
given to the organization, capitalization, management and marketing
aspects of their businesses.
This study finds that ukay-ukay tradesmen have varying personal,
social and economic characteristics. As to the ukay-ukay businesses in
Cubao, the study finds that they are organized, financed, and managed in
different ways but employ similar marketing strategies.
This study also finds that ukay-ukay tradesmen encounter
problems in the different aspects of the conduct of their business but have
shown indications of addressing these problems.
Lastly, the study finds that the survival and growth of the business
depends on the changing government policies and regulations in as much
as it does to the business skills possessed by the participants, the
businessmen.
